POSITION DESCRIPTION:

1. JOB PURPOSE

Applications are invited for the position of Director of Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service. The Director will report to the Associate Vice President for Public Service and Agriculture. Clemson University (http://www.clemson.edu/) is the Land-Grant University of South Carolina encompassing many academic disciplines with an enrollment of almost 20,000 students. Located in Clemson, South Carolina, Clemson University is an exciting research university at the center of the dynamic I-85 corridor between Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA. The University boasts a 1,400-acre campus on the shores of Lake Hartwell within view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Surrounding the campus are 18,000 acres of University Farms and experimental forestland devoted to teaching, research and Extension. A warm campus environment, great weather, and recreational activities offered by proximity to both the natural environment and large cities are a part of the Clemson Experience.

Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service (http://www.clemson.edu/extension/) engages citizens to improve economic development and quality of life by delivering research-based information in agriculture, natural resources, food safety and nutrition, economic and community development, and 4-H youth development. South Carolina Cooperative Extension is based at the states two land-grant institutions. Clemson University and South Carolina State University. Clemson Extension agents are located in all 46 counties and at the universitys five Research and Education Centers. There are approximately 160 Extension employees with a $20 million budget.

2. JOB FUNCTIONS

LEADERSHIP
Lead and manage all aspects of the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service, including budgets, personnel, facilities, county offices, and interaction with state and federal agencies; represent Extension to the South Carolina legislature. E/40%

DIRECTION
Be a leader with the vision to continually assess and adapt the Extension program to meet the ever changing needs of the people of South Carolina while adhering to the principles and mission of Clemson Universitys land-grant university designation. E/10%

PSA COLLABORATION
Work collaboratively as a member of the Public Service team that includes the Experiment Station, Regulatory Services, and Livestock and Poultry Health units. E/10%

CAMPUS COLLABORATION
Work collaboratively and cooperatively with the faculty and administrators of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences to provide a science-based system of extension and outreach in agriculture, food systems and natural resources. E/10%

STATEWIDE COLLABORATION
Maintain collaborative relationships with the county councils and administrators of South Carolinas 46 counties and state government agencies; and with agricultural commodity groups E/10%

FUNDING AND SUPPORT
Demonstrate the ability to obtain funding, seek external funding and support for extension programs E/10%

SC STATE LIAISON
Work cooperatively and serve as the primary liaison with the 1890 Extension Program at South Carolina State University. E/5%

REGIONAL/NATIONAL
Work cooperatively and serve as the primary liaison with the 1890 Extension Program at South Carolina State University. E/5%
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements:

Earned doctorate or equivalent in a field relevant to the position and be qualified for an appointment at the rank of professor in a College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences department;

Demonstrated excellence in Extension program development, management, implementation and assessment

Must have experience in extension administration.

Must demonstrate success in team building and collaborative efforts with a record of positive leadership.

Must demonstrate dedication to excellence in all aspects of the Extension program and in the land-grant mission of Clemson University.

Must be able to communicate Clemson Universitys mission and program impacts verbally and in written form to our employees and to our clients.

Administrative experience as a Chair, Director, Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, or Dean is highly desired.

Experience as a faculty member at a land-grant university is highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated abilities in Extension program development, management, implementation and assessment.

Must demonstrate success in team building and collaborative efforts with a record of positive leadership.

Must demonstrate dedication to excellence in all aspects of the Extension program and in the land-grant mission of Clemson University.

Must be able to communicate Clemson Universitys mission and program impacts verbally and in written form to our employees and to our clients.

Guidelines and Supervision:

Lead and manage all aspects of the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service, including budgets, personnel, facilities, county offices, and interaction with state and federal agencies; represent Extension to the South Carolina legislature
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hrs: 37.5; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
JOB LOCATION:

Position will be located on the Clemson University Campus and serve the citizens of South Carolina statewide
