Heat Treat Technician at Charleston

Job Description

Eaton located in Charleston, South Carolina has an opening for a Heat Treat Technician. This individual will be responsible for the following:
-Operate gas and electric furnaces.
-Consults processes and procedures for proper recipes, instruction, and tooling to ensure quality product.
-Lead / support continuous improvement projects such as productivity gains, downtime improvements, safety improvements, problem solving, etc.
-Maintains clean and safe work area by practicing 5-s.
-Ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions.
-Operate and set up induction machines for brazing and hardening.
-Complete inspection of brazed shoe product via required inspection method (i.e. X-ray).
-Select and regulate furnace temperatures for specific treating jobs; visually inspect materials for foreign matter and positioning materials on racks or containers, load furnaces and time prescribed heating cycles to bring material to proper temperatures.
-Familiarize and train other Heat Treat operators using process documentation, quality plans, and the operator training checklist as needed.
-Read, post, maintain charts on furnaces, maintain logs (SPC, etc.) and interpret gages.
-Use computer terminal to help track, monitor and record department activities.
-Responsible and accountable for quality of work produced and records and documents required.
-Perform hardness testing using proper methods for micro-hardness, Rockwell, and superficial testers.
-Perform quality metallurgical acceptance tests based on hardness, processing, and sample preparation including microstructure analysis.
-Develop heat treat recipes based on drawings and specification requirements.
-Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Have completed ASM related heat treat courses or equivalent to include Heat Treat Quality and Inspection.
-Experience setting up and operating heat treating furnaces.
-3 or more years of experience setting up and operating heat treating furnaces.
-3 or more years of experience in heat treatment acceptance testing performing quality metallurgical acceptance tests based on hardness, processing, sample preparation and microstructure analysis to print requirements.
-Understanding of basic pyrometry.
-AMS 2750 experience is a plus.
-3 or more years of experience in developing heat treat recipes based on drawings and specification requirements.

Job Requirements

-High School diploma or equivalent minimum.
-Must demonstrate understanding and usage of Statistical Process Control.
-Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering processes, process sketches, and blueprints.
-Must be able to follow detailed procedures and/or heat treat recipes.
-Must be able to read micrometers and calipers and use functional gages.
-Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 2010 version including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
-Must be able to clearly articulate both verbally and in writing.
-Must be able to work in a team environment.
-PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, reach to or below shoulder level, lift, carry, push, pull, and use hands to handle and feel. The employee is frequently required to climb and reach above shoulder level. The employee is regularly required to lift/carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to push/pull up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
-Must be able to work safely.
-Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience operating in a heat treat operation position.
