Chief Financial Officer

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden located in Columbia, SC is home to more than 2,000 magnificent and fascinating animals and has one of the nations most beautiful and inspiring botanical gardens in the country.  Riverbanks is one of the most successful zoological parks and gardens in the United States that welcomes over one million visitors each year.

We are looking for a dynamic leader with a proven track record of accomplishments in the finance field that will be responsible for the fiscal operations of our organization to include:

 

• Oversight of reporting to the Executive Director and COO regarding quarterly budget to actual performance
• Provides assistance to the Executive Director and staff in the financial area including such tasks as preparing financial analysis, evaluating proposals and supplying direction and advice
• Works with Zoo staff to develop management reports that integrate financial, visitor, membership and other operational data to insure timely performance assessment information
• Researches and forecasts revenues, expenditures, and capital needs on a short and long term basis
• Advances the design and organization of the budgetary system on a continuum
• Manage the operations of the accounting department, performing financial research and forecasting and conducting internal audits
• Work diligently with senior managers and contributes to various organization-wide initiatives and projects that can be after business hours and on weekends
• Assists in the implementation and maintenance of computerized systems in the finance area
• Provides direct supervision, instruction, and guidance to the accounting staff.  Reviews work, plans and coordinates activities to ensure standards of the area are maintained.  Evaluate training needs of staff and provide mentoring and guidance as needed
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals to include supervisors, department heads, employees, commission members, board members, council members, general public, vendors, etc.

Job Requirements

Education, Work Experience and Specialized Skills/Knowledge:

• MBA and CPA preferred
• At least five years experience as CFO or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit organization
• Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies
• Significant experience in or knowledge of sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting
• Experience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software packages
• Excellent written, oral and group presentation communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills
