Technical Writer at Liberty

Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

A Well-known Company is Liberty, SC seeks experienced Technical Writer for long-term contract assignment. Successful applicant will develop and maintain Component Maintenance Manuals, Overhaul Manuals, Service Bulletins, Service Letters, and other various technical documents used for commercial aviation maintenance.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITES:



Author and revise documentation using Adobe In-Design, Framemaker (structured), and ArborText while complying with ATA100, ATA iSpec2200, and S1000D specifications.



Responsible for the writing of major portions of publications, revisions to existing publications, and its technical content.



Supports the complete workflow process to ensure successful completion of each revision cycle and distribution to technical publications. This includes support for various quality processes to ensure accuracy, ease of use and timely delivery of each revision cycle in the technical publication environment.



Read and interpret engineering drawings, test reports, and manufacturing data for inclusion into technical manuals.



Edit manuals created by other authors for format and technical content as related to engineering data and drawings.



Work closely with the engineering department to understand program activities that will alter technical documentation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


Minimum two year degree in technical writing or related field and five years of experience as a technical writer. Experience greater than three years with an alternate level of education will be considered.



Experience authoring in SGML and XML with understanding of ATA and S1000D requirements.



Experience using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, AutoCAD or similar illustration software.

Desired Characteristics:


Successful applicant must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.



A detailed understanding of Technical Publications processes and technologies.



A high-level understanding of the requirements and use of ATA documentation.



Ability to read and interpret blueprint and Engineering Orders
.



Must have a good working knowledge of aircraft tools, test equipment, vendor coding, parts nomenclature, maintenance procedures, and of aircraft equipment and maintenance.



Ability to multitask, organize and be flexible to handle changing requirements and deadlines.



Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work with and interact with various levels within the organization

Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Perform other duties as assigned.
