Assistant Territory Manager - Charleston at Charleston

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the daily operations of a PODS storage centers within a designated location. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the storage center and driver staff, direct day-to-day supervision of such staff, manage the daily routing and assignment of jobs to drivers. Continually maintain all OSHA, DOT and preventative maintenance programs for all the storage center and driver equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement standards, metrics, performance criteria, policies and procedures to continuously improve delivery and storage center productivity
  • Handle customer communication on arrival times, customer service issues
  • Coordinate repairs if damage occurs at a customer site, ensure all paperwork and payment packets are returned from the field, coordinate access to customer PODS stored in the storage center
  • Maintain operating budget focusing on maximizing profitability and reducing costs
  • Coordinate with the Operations Division for performing POD repairs and lift repairs in the field, and at the storage center
  • Daily routing and direction for delivery drivers as outlined by delivery requests and ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction
  • Assist all Delivery Drivers throughout their routes to ensure timely delivery schedules are met and customer satisfaction is maintained
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean storage center, inside and out
  • Responsible for reporting employee issues/performance to General Manager and Human Resources in a timely manner
  • Maintain communication with the Call Center and other divisions for daily delivery and customer requests
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Human Resources for all personnel management assistance, accident reports, employee evaluations and personnel reporting
  • Maintain communication with Risk Management for all damage and accident reports
  • Responsible for submitting personnel requests and hiring criteria to attract and select the highest caliber candidates ( I would want the TM to do this)
  • Ensure timely submission of incentives and weekly payroll approval
  • Resolution and reporting of all customer service incidents and damage reports
  • Analyze and respond to changing market conditions, to include competitive benchmarking (suggest deleting)
  • Provide team motivation and development
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned including driver responsibility (up to 20% of job duties) if necessary

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED: Perform duties under general direction of the General Manager (should be TM). Supervise work and activities of storage center and delivery staff.

SCOPE OF DECISIONS: Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma; college degree preferred or 3-5 years of prior management experience in lieu of degree
  • 1-2 years prior management experience required
  • Two years of prior customer service/relations and/or transportation and storage center experience a must

Math and Language Skills

  • General knowledge of basic math skills, ability to calculate percentages, prepare schedules, maintain/track work hours, maintain/track key metrics, manage budget
  • Above average written/verbal/interpersonal communication skills sufficient to communicate and interact effectively with customers, employees and all levels of management
  • Excellent command of the English language, good use of grammar skills. Bilingual skills helpful

PC Skills

  • PC proficiency and typing skills; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, sufficient to create documents, spreadsheets and communicate via email
  • Ability to learn and use PODS proprietary software



Physical Abilities

  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for up to 8 hours a day; ability to use hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to navigate. Vision sufficient to view small details on a monitor
  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours a day; stoop, bend and lift boxes weighing up to 35 lbs (lets make 50)
  • Ability to hear and to verbally communicate using a telephone handset and/or connected headset device

  • Possess a clean driving record and current drivers license. Willingness to apply for a drivers license issued by state in which the job is located
  • Ability to apply and successfully attain CDL Class B or higher license
  • Ability to maintain an updated medical examiners certificate to meet DOT requirements
  • Ability to pass Operational Management Training program

WORKING CONDITIONS: Climate controlled office environment during normal business hours. May be subjected to inclement seasonal weather conditions if position calls for working in a storage center or factory environment, or traveling to/from various locations

Hours: Adhere to scheduled work times. Flexibility, additional hours and weekends may be required to meet business needs.
