Located in the historic part of the city of Charleston, the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center serves more than 57,000 veterans in 22 counties along the South Carolina and Georgia coastline in our main Medical Center or one of six community-based outpatient clinics. The main Medical Center provides acute medical, surgical, and psychiatric inpatient care, as well as outpatient primary and mental health care to low country veterans. The Medical Center currently operates 96 beds and a 20 Community Living Center beds. Charleston VAMC supports the Vet Centers in North Charleston, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. Charleston is a DOD/VA Joint Venture Site and has a robust Academic Affiliation with the Medical University of South Carolina. The Ralph H. Johnson VAMC also has over 100 Researchers with some 300 research protocols.

The Housing Management Assistant is assigned to the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Program and works under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Health Care for Homeless Veteran (HCHV) within the Mental Health Service Line at the Ralph H. Johnson VAMC, Charleston, South Carolina.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Schedules, initiates, and facilitate housing opportunities for potential HUD VASH Veterans through housing development activities.
- Assist HUD VASH Veterans in their search to find housing that will meet the minimum qualifications of a Public Housing Administration (PHA) Inspector.
- Participates in the interviewing process to determine eligibility and a needs assessment.
- Assist with housing related issues relevant to obtaining/fulfilling lease requirements such as initial household set up, budgeting, housekeeping, health, safety/security concerns and contacting the landlord about repairs and other problems in the home.
- Develops action plans to promote community landlords interest and willingness in renting to Veterans with a voucher.
- Prepares reports, maintain records and databases.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, may require evenings and weekends

Basic Requirments
2 years of general experience
OR
Successful completion of four years of education above high school in an accredited business, secretarial or technical, junior college, college or university in any field in which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite may be substituted for specialized experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Generally, work is sedentary. Some walking, handling and carrying of light to moderately heavy objects (such as files and records) are required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
