Accountability Objective:
This position is responsible for Human Resources,, benefits and training functions. The incumbent will be responsible for providing administrative services of a highly responsible and confidential nature.
The incumbent is accountable for employee relations, recruitment, training, benefits, succession planning, performance management, administering salaried guidelines, Human Resources administration, special projects, processing payroll and reporting for salaried and hourly employees. Provide advice and counsel to management staff on Human Resources matters.
Principal End Results:
Participates in the development of and assures the implementation of employee personnel policies, procedures and programs.
Directs, coordinates and monitors recruiting and staffing functions to assure manpower objectives are achieved.
Assure new hire employment and safety orientations are conducted for all newly hired employees and all external contractors working on site.
Responsible for day-to-day HR duties including employee relations, staffing, training, benefit administration, succession planning, bonus and merit increase preparation, weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing and reporting for hourly/salary employees, processing workers compensation and general administration of HR policies and procedures.
Recruitment of hourly employees and temporary employee placement to include: contact with staffing agencies, open position ads, collection, review, screening and selection of applicants for interview pool, etc. Provide input on selection of successful candidates. Associated applicant tracking and record keeping tasks.
Administers confidential employee records, status spreadsheets and status changes tracking new hires, terminations, transfers, promotions etc. for generation of various reports, i.e., EEO, Affirmative Action. Tracking and maintaining temporary employee records and reports.
Assist in planning and organizing employee functions, such as: Employee Appreciation events, Service Award Banquet, Health & Safety Activities, etc.
Assure all internal company communication programs including bulletin boards, internal announcements and job postings are maintained and updated.
Manage hourly and salaried performance management program. Assist supervisors with written content when necessary. Follow through to completion.
Monitor and manage hourly employee attendance program and prepare disciplinary warnings when warranted.
Responsible for special assignments supporting Human Resources initiatives. Development, implementation and management of a complete plant Health and Safety (HS) programs for the Charleston, SC facility, to minimize all safety risks and reduce potential liabilities.
Compliance with all safety procedures and establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free and healthy work environment.
Nature and Scope:
This position reports directly to the Director, Human Resources and reporting responsibility to the Operations Manager.
The incumbent has depth in all facets of Human Resources. This person needs to be experienced and be able to deliver quality, high volume work and be used to working in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment. The incumbent coordinates recruitment, interviewing, background checks, hiring and new hire orientation.
The incumbent is responsible for open dialogue and handling all day-to-day employee relations activities. This includes solving labor problems as they occur and, more importantly, preventing potential labor disagreements between employees and first line supervision.
This position demands excellent people skills, tact and judgment required to assert the employers position while empathizing with the employee. Must be able to handle and maintain confidential information and not be personally offended by what is observed or known. A general understanding of business concepts and operations relating to the position is required.
The incumbent along with staff members is responsible for safety and environmental related issues, which include the coordination and implementation of facility projects.
Background/Skills:
BS Degree in Business with a minimum of 1-3 years of Human Resources and Safety generalist experience in a large matrix manufacturing Company is a plus. The incumbent must be able to travel 10%.
Requires technical knowledge of the principals of good employee relations, policies and procedures, labor laws, wage and salary programs, succession planning, recruiting and benefits administration. Human relation skills are desirable. General knowledge of the Companys budget systems and report requirements is desirable. A thorough knowledge of the Operations Business Unit goals, as they pertain to Human Resources & Safety, is required.
Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, as well as computer skills. Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Applications such as Word, Excel, and Power Point. PeopleSoft and Kronos knowledge is a plus.
