SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) LEADER at Beaufort

This position is located at the Fleet Readiness Center-Southeast (FRC-SE), Industrial Execution Department in Beaufort, SC. The primary purpose of this position is to lead multiple artisans primarily in the Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Trade, but including Aircraft Mechanics and Aircraft Electricians in a Field Mod Team environment.

·  Leading others in the performance of sheet metal mechanic (aircraft) work, and ensuring the accomplishment of the supervisor’s goals.

·  Provides guidance to workers on methods and procedures.

·  Coordinates work requirements with shop supervisor and assists in the development of shop standard hours and work sequencing.

·  Utilize sheet metal systems or items to evaluate the structural procedures and aircraft modifications pertaining to F/A-18 aircraft.

·  Analyze blueprints, sketches and drawings to evaluate structural damage/plan and layout repairs to aircraft parts.

·  Demonstrate proper work practices involved in the repair, modification, fabrication and installation of sheet metal parts, items and assemblies.

The Screen-out Element for this position is:  Ability to do the work of a  Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader without more than normal supervision such as: carrying out work, guiding others, resolving problems and ensuring that all safety rules and procedures are followed; developing patterns/templates for lower graded workers; determining how to plan, lay out and construct manufactured items/systems with dovetailed, set-in bottom, burred-bottom, wired, or locked seams; using complicated measuring instruments such as protractors, calipers, snap right, screw pitch gauges and other hand measurement devices to measure plans and projects; operating complicated shop tools and equipment such as hand/powered crimping, burring, turning, beading machines and soldering/welding equipment; utilizing complicated shop mathematics to figure irregular curves, angles and pitch; analyzing blueprints and sketches and working with various metals such as honeycomb material, magnesium, alloys, stainless steel and copper sheet to evaluate structural damage, repair and modify projects.

REQUIREMENTS: 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.
