Job Description
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer supports the mission of the Manufacturing Team by providing technical support and leadership in delivering continuous improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and cost metrics. The Senior Engineer supports new product development and commercialization, capital project implementation, material cost reduction projects, and ongoing improvements in labor utilization and productivity.
Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering leadership in the design and development of new mattress products and associated processes, as well as specification and procurement of required manufacturing assets. Ensure smooth transition for new product launches, as key member of product commercialization teams.
- Research, identify, and implement equipment and systems to drive improved products and processes. Partner with suppliers to identify equipment needs and related costs, to develop and document business cases in support of capital requests. Manage capital projects through procurement, installation, startup, process validation, and transfer to maintenance and operations.
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of product design, fabrication processes, assembly methods, and quality control standards. Document processes through Standard Operating Procedures, and establish appropriate labor standards.
- Analyze and develop plans for improved work-flow, space and labor utilization, and design equipment layout and workspaces for maximum efficiency.
- Identify and analyze process cycles times, required staffing and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Lead and support development and execution of World Class Manufacturing and Lean methodologies.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Industrial/Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
- 5-10 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with Lean experience.
- 5+ years capital project management experience.
- Strong skills in data collection, analysis, and decision-making. Preferred Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC process familiarity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows-based software, including Microsoft Office applications. Experience with PTC ProEngineer/Creo and Windchill preferred.
- Experience with Oracle applications optional.
- Strong skills in communication, cross-functional team work, and collaborative decision making.
- Experience in developing, reading and understanding technical drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Working in a manufacturing plant environment, with exposure to dust and moderate noise.
- Plant operation involves 3 shifts across 24 hours, including some weekends. Work hours may vary depending on project work.
- Must be able to spend a significant amount of time on a production floor. Job may require reaching, bending, stooping, working at elevation, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Must wear proper personal protective equipment depending on specific project work
- Some travel (including air travel) will be required, to suppliers and other corporate facilities in Utah and Minnesota.
