Accountability Objective:
This position is responsible for the implementation and execution of policies, procedures and internal controls in accordance with corporate policies and generally accepted accounting principles for the Charleston, SC and Russellville, AL Glass Mat Operations. Broadly defined, this responsibility includes the development, implementation, maintenance, and auditing of all financial systems, which impact the Plant financial records. The Plant Controller will ensure effective compliance with Corporate policies. This position will be directly responsible for the management of a highly reliable, integrated financial information system, which is responsive to the changing financial reporting, and management needs of the organization. The Plant Controller will participate in external and internal audits and control reviews to the extent required to ensure the integrity of data impacting the financial status of the plant. This position is to establish an on-going effective relationship between the financial services group and other operating functions and is a contributor and team member in providing assistance in achieving goals and strategies.
Principal End Results:
The Plant Controller is essentially responsible to ensure that the financial systems provide a timely and accurate reporting of all revenues and expenses and the proliferation of such data that the VP, Finance and/or Business Unit Controller may deem necessary. In addition, ensures that these systems meet internal and external financial control guidelines. This position is required to take initiative in maintaining strict financial operational controls over a manufacturing facility, which produces both a standard type product and a non-standard product. The coordination and control of product related activities among the Sales and Marketing, Engineering, and Manufacturing Departments require in-depth participation. The incumbent should develop and maintain fairly comprehensive product knowledge, as well as an aggressive posture regarding current manufacturing and other operating processes. Other broad general responsibilities are as follows:
Prepare and maintain financial accounting records and accounts, which in reasonable detail, accurately and fairly reflect all assets, and liabilities and transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and other applicable requirements.
Institute and maintain and adequate system of financial record keeping and internal accounting control, initiating and enforcing controls and procedures where appropriate.
Prepare financial, cost and other reports and disclosures of a financial and accounting nature, as required by governmental agencies as well as, corporate management.
Take a proactive role in the development and implementation of projects and business strategies.
Provide opportunities for staff employees to realize their personal goals, through training, development and involvement.
Responsibility for specifying environmental requirements in Purchase Orders and Contracts.
Responsible for selecting qualified suppliers and contractors who can meet environmental requirements, and for monitoring and evaluating the performance of those contractors and any subcontractors.
Promotes and supports plant initiatives and adherence to SGC safety standards.

Nature and Scope:
The position reports directly to the Director, Finance.
The Plant Controller is responsible for a staff of approximately 2 Finance employees, as well as temporary employees, as required. Although professional and clerical positions may report directly to a respective Manager and/or Supervisor, the Plant Controller is responsible for the adherence, compatibility and consistency of reporting among the various groups.
The objectives of the Plant Controller position encompasses primarily such functions as Financial Reporting and Systems, Cost Management Information, Financial Services, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Timekeeping and Payroll. In addition, the functions of external and internal audits and reviews to insure compliance to Corporate polices and procedures are adhered to. In summary, this position has the responsibility to ensure the integrity of the financial data reported meets Corporate and local requirements to support pertinent financial and business decisions, have familiarity with international accounting standards, as well as meeting outside financial standards.
The incumbent is occasionally required to serve on committees, perhaps to assist a business team and or Plant Safety Task Team.
Background/Skills:
BS or BA degree in Finance or related subjects is desired. Work experience of 5-7 years in Accounting, and/or Finance in a manufacturing environment is desired. Varied experience in financial, operations, systems, and cost management, as well as supervisory experience at a professional level is very desirable.
