Job Description
Job Summary:The Manufacturing Engineer plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes. He/she develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
- Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
- Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
- Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
- Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential
- Quality Issue Resolution by working with Suppliers, Manufacturing, Field Service, and Engineering
- Apply statistical methods to perform root cause analysis and implement containment and corrective actions
- Manage component obsolescence by identifying and testing alternate substitutes
- Design new processes and work methods for introduction of new products and improvement of existing
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods by utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, tooling, test equipment, and assembly methods
- Keep up to date with current and developing trends in the manufacturing industry, at a national and international level; attending training courses and conferences - the engineer should always participate in CPD (continuous professional development) programs affiliated to their professional body
Job Requirements
Education & Training:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience
Experience:
At least five years related work experience, preferably in electronic consumer products
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to modify mechanical and electrical drawings in terms of dimensions and critical tolerances preferred
- Hands on approach to problem solving backed with ability to convert data into information
- High level of competence in Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, etc.)
- Team player with the ability to unify and work with and across departments and functions
- Ability to work under minimal supervision. Goal oriented
- Ability to work under the normal day-to-day pressures typical of a manufacturing environment
- Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma
- Experience with Solid Works a plus
