Jr Java Developer at Columbia

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Junior Java Developer is a key member of the software development organization, responsible for aiding in the development of software as well as developing software. This position will work closely with the Department Manager and Team Leads in understanding coding standards and architectural practices. The Junior Java Developer will interact daily with technical personnel and business representatives.

DUTIES / ACTIVITIES

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Responsible for driving the clients culture through values and customer service standards.

Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal contacts.

Develops and maintains positive relationships through effective and timely communication.

Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Coding of new modules for eMedix Online. This will entail the review and understanding of project scope, requirements, project design and the software development life cycle.

Coding of new interfaces between the clearinghouse and PMs.

Support (issue resolution) of existing web modules and backend interfaces. The developer will need to respond quickly to critical issues, and may be required to provide Tier III support during non-business hours.

Performs other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION:

Associates degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Programming or related field OR equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

Two+ years of Java experience

Web development skills with JSP, HTML and CSS.

Strong working knowledge and experience with object oriented programming concepts and practices.

Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) preferred.

Familiarity with Spring/Hibernate Frameworks preferred.

Familiarity with Liferay Portal Web platform preferred

Familiarity with Linux operating system preferred.

Familiarity with Healthcare EDI transaction sets preferred.

Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to learn new technologies.

Must work well independently as well as in a team environment.

Willingness to work evenings/weekends as necessary and dictated by project deadlines or severity of support issues.
