Job Summary:ETL architect / developer job descriptions:
Collaborate with Data Architect, and DBAs to understand business requirements, and data to:
Participate in ETL coding and produce better ETL code faster than a proficient ETL developer can.
Provide hands on support for production ETL processes.
Job Requirements
Required Skills:Knowledge
In depth knowledge of data movement techniques, including one time conversions as well as ongoing synchronization of data
Extensive applied knowledge of industry best practices in data movement design and migration methods
and techniques
Experience
Extensive Data Planning, Design and Migration Experience
At least 5 to 10 years proven experience in Integrated Data Movement Strategy, Design and Implementation in support of a complex System Migration project
Abilities
The candidate needs to be comfortable working in an ambiguous environment (or you will be frustrated all day long, every day).
The candidate should be capable of working on several projects at the same time, balancing tasks with priorities.
The person has to be results-orientated, willing and able to take ownership of engagements.
Ability to develop integrated data migration strategies
Ability to train and mentor others in data generation and management methodology and associated tools
Manage expectations with Business, and IT management and meet the agreed-upon project deadlines.
Success Criteria
Technical Design Documents delivered to developers are complete (no missing pieces in terms of technical components, such as calling an Oracle Procedure, email notification, creating a flat file, etc), clear (make sense to developers), and meet business requirement, technical requirements (ETL tool performance, database performance).
Significantly reduce ETL design time by utilizing the ETL architects EXTENSIVE and DEEP knowledge in data warehousing, data integration and database design.
Significantly reduce ETL development time by eliminating ETL rework. ETL rework (assuming ETL developers have followed the exact instructions in the TSD) is an indication of failure on the part of the ETL architect. (Think of the scenario a builder has to tear down part of a new house to re-build it)
