ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN JOB SPECIFICATIONSPurpose: The purpose of this position is to be the primary person involved with PLC maintenance, troubleshooting, and programming. They will also be directly involved in routine electrical maintenance work and assist with other project/maintenance work as requested.
Principal Duties:
Understand and be the expert as relates to the Allen Bradley and any other brand PLCs maintenance, troubleshooting, and programming especially as relates to line flow.
o Modify, maintain and install PLC programs. Develop new programs as directed. Identify PLC problems; troubleshoot and maintain; update documentation and wiring changes.
o Troubleshoot basic ladder logic to include coils, contacts, timers, counters, subtract blocks, add blocks, compare function blocks, and multiplication and divide blocks.
Assist in the organization and upkeep of the electrical maintenance shop and parts storage; help establish and maintain a parts inventory.
Develop a thorough understanding of Can Making equipment.
Become the expert Allen Bradley and other brand PLC person on site.
Receive wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications and instructions covering scheduled and emergency repair, installation and inspection work to be done.
Perform troubleshooting and maintenance on all plant electrical equipment.
Wire new equipment and rework wiring on production equipment when needed.
Work with engineering staff to evaluate and install new PLC and Panel View programs.
Interface with industry suppliers to spec equipment replacements and stay current with new developments in the field of PLC automation.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections on production equipment as needed and assigned; assist in developing related PMs that do not currently exist.
Plan and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and principles, wiring specifications, codes, properties of various materials and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
Analyze all types of circuits, wiring diagrams, networks and drawings as required to install repair, adjust, calibrate, construct, modify , replace or service all types of electronic devices and systems, including communication systems, electronic gauges, controls and regulator, power and distribution control equipment, measuring, recording, processing and indicating devices.
Make sketches of parts and layouts; design and construct adaptations or conversions of component parts including the necessary phases of development work.
Service electronic equipment by checking, testing and replacing faulty components, circuit modules, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices.
Maintain, install or repair all communication cables, power distribution cables and wiring, splicing as required.
Perform any and all types of plant wide electrical maintenance including installation of electrical conduit. Determine need analyze and make all necessary running adjustments, repairs, overhauls and replacement of parts to all electrical equipment.
Maintain performance, inventory and maintenance records for electrical and electronic equipment.
Advise operators, mechanics and other electrical maintenance personnel of standard operating procedures and requirements for electronic and electrical equipment and controls.
Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective action taken.
Operate equipment and assist production as directed.
Be knowledgeable of and conform to the requirements of NFPA70E, Arc Flash
Job Requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience- Minimum five years experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic components of automated manufacturing equipment, specifically Allen Bradley brand. Knowledge of variable speed drives, AC/DC drives, prox switches, photo eyes, and transducers
- 2 years experience programming PLC using ladder logic.
- Technical college degree and/or apprenticeship desired.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and use various testing equipment to perform calibrations, etc.
- Read and draw pneumatic and hydraulic machine and electrical schematics.
- Must have own tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills, team skills, and ability to interact with all levels in the organization.
