Department/Location: NGDMajor Projects / Oconee Nuclear Station / Flood Protection Project

Position Description: This position reports to the Major Projects Engineering Manager for the Flood Protection Project. The Supervising Engineer/Civil is responsible for all facets of the Civil engineering required for this major project. This position will provide supervision and oversight for Duke Energys civil engineering team assigned to the project as well as the Civil engineering work to be performed by an EPC Contractor and other contractors involved in the project.

Specific accountabilities, as it relates to the civil engineering scope of the project, include:

Supervise the development of design solutions, performance of engineering analyses, preparation of design documents and engineering change packages, and provide engineering support during implementation.
Provide oversight to ensure that the project team is successfully resourced to ensure engineering project milestones are achieved that support project schedules. This includes providing support to define requirements and specifications as well as providing oversight of an EPC Contractor.
Ensure coordination of design inputs from the plant systems and component engineering organizations, operational and maintenance considerations to facilitate optimal design solutions.
Provide expertise to recognize and resolve complex engineering/technical problems and also recognize when additional expertise or technical experience is required.
Ensure appropriate engineering rigor is applied to designs such that applicable code and regulatory requirements are met.

Job Requirements

Basic:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from accredited university, eight years of engineering experience involving design and/or modifications at operating nuclear stations, two of which in a supervisorial capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple organizations to achieve desired objectives, using the appropriate department and site processes/programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in a modification or project oriented environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate vertically and horizontally within the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to meet commitments while managing multiple objectives.
  • Must be able to gain nuclear plant access and security clearance for the position
  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills for complex nuclear station issues


Desired:
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Self-motivated and able to motivate organization to complete activities with minimal management involvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a defined cost structure
  • Demonstrated ability to translate broad site objectives to specific job functions (nuclear/personnel safety, equipment reliability, production, human performance, cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance)
  • Experience with outsourcing services.
