Synopsis of Role:
The Military Outreach Education Coordinator serves as the representative for American Military University (AMU) covering the South Carolina and eastern Georgia region. This position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with key influencers, Education Service Officers (ESO), and current students and prospective students within the assigned area. The incumbent will ensure that marketing materials displayed in base Education Service Offices and elsewhere are kept replenished and current. The Education Coordinator will serve as an on-site liaison between AMU and the field locations to all members of the local community as appropriate. The Education Coordinator presents briefings to individuals and groups, counsels and assists prospective students, represents AMU at local events and ceremonies, and provides information about AMU programs to unit leaders and other key personnel. This position will be full-time, and the incumbent will work 40 hours per week.
This position requires engagement in student recruitment, admissions and/or financial aid activities, and therefore, is ineligible to receive certain types of incentive compensation.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as the “face of AMU" in South Carolina and the eastern Georgia region.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with active duty, Guard, and Reserve Education Services Officers and other key personnel; attends ESO and other meetings in the same manner as other school representatives.
- Ensures marketing materials displayed in Education Centers and elsewhere are kept replenished and current.
- Provides face-to-face, phone, and e-mail assistance to current students and prospective students.
- Attends ceremonies and other events on behalf of AMU, and may make presentations of scholarships or other forms of recognition to deserving individuals.
- Assists the Director, Military Outreach - Eastern United States and Overseas, in the development and execution of strategies, plans, and objectives, and keeps him or her informed of potential marketing opportunities in the assigned area.
- Prepares briefings and presents information to individuals and groups of varying sizes.
- Develops innovative ways to relay information about AMU to target audiences.
- Provides input to advertising and marketing activities specific to area of responsibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Work is performed primarily at Installation Education Centers and from home.
- Travel required within assigned geographic area; occasional travel (car and air travel) required to Manassas, Virginia, Charles Town, West Virginia, and other various training activities throughout the continental United States.
Job Requirements
- In-depth understanding of the armed forces, preferably gained through personal experience.

- Ability to interact with internal contacts, including fellow American Public University System (APSU) employees up to the Executive level and APUS students, and external contacts, including senior military personnel, unit leaders, base education officials, leaders of civic organizations, and prospective students.

Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
- Military service experience or familiarity preferred.
- Military Identification (ID) card preferred.
- Knowledge of military voluntary education programs preferred.
- Ability to use a computer required; experience with Microsoft Office products preferred.
