SPECIMEN PROCESSOR
Responsibilities:
-Adhere to Compliance policy, performing only client specific tasks and not tasks/work on behalf of clinic.
-Process collected specimens.
-Proactively prepare requisition forms prior to patients visit.
-Utilize a web based online requisition system to correctly complete the requisition form by:
1- Documenting correct date collected via online requisition system.
2- Collecting and/or entering patient demographic information from the patient or patient chart such as age, weight, height, and gender.
3- Obtaining and entering accurate diagnosis code(s).
4- Obtaining and entering accurate insurance/payer, workers compensation and additional billing information.
5- Obtaining a copy of any and all insurance cards to be submitted with the specimen.
6- Compiling a list of the patients medication by consulting the patient or reviewing the patients medical chart.
7- Obtaining and entering information related to the date prescribed medications were last taken by the patient.
8- Requiring the patient to sign the specimen label.
9- Reviewing accuracy of every field on electronic requisition form prior to shipment, promptly submitting requisition via the online requisition system and processing the urine specimen for transport.
10- Processing specimens collected by the physician practice from the patient by ensuring sufficient volume has been collected to meet or exceed specimen fill line criteria.
11- Ensuring the lid is secure on the specimen to prevent leakage in transit.
12- Clearly labeling and sealing the specimen cup and requiring the patient to initial or sign the label.
13- Prepare shipping documentation and properly pack specimen for UPS pick up.
-Take inventory of specimen supplies and order when necessary.
-Maintain a high level of accuracy in completing requisition forms.
-Research and provide corrected Missing/Invalid Information data upon request by:
1- Reviewing data on a regular basis.
2- Adhering to deadlines for submitting information.
3- Contacting the appropriate resources to obtain assistance with completion of requested information.
4- Reporting to the appropriate resource any contributing factors to error occurrence such as clinic processes, clinic direction, training issues etc.
-Contact appropriate resource to address any collection issue such as low sample volume, attempts to tamper with specimen or any other collection issue.
Preference given to candidates who possess the following skills:
-Dependable, strong work ethic
-Excellent customer service
-Strong sense of customer service.
-Experience with online ordering system.
-Experience entering medical/patient information quickly and accurately.
-Experience with electronic medical records preferred.
-Experience/exposure to ICD9 coding preferred.
-Must be adaptable and flexible to change with processes, contacts, clinics and online requisition process.
-Must be willing to participate in ongoing training and have a desire to continue to improve job performance and knowledge on a daily basis.
-Clinic Professional appearance and demeanor.
-Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
-Must be accountable for submitting accurate and complete information.
-Must be reliable, punctual, accountable and adhere to the absence policy.
-An entry level background in the medical field.
-Can communicate effectively with client, All Medical, clinic staff and patients.
-Works well under minimal supervision.
-Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
-Knowledge of computer programs.
-Knowledge of medical office procedures.
-Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures.
-Ability to search the internet for applicable information.
-Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.
-Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
