National Director Muscle Walk East at Charleston

Organization overview:

The Muscular Dystrophy Association dedicated to conquering neuromuscular diseases, is ranked among the nations top health agencies. The organization provides comprehensive healthcare services through its network of 200 hospital-affiliated clinics, sends 4,000 children to more than 80 summer camps, supports MDA families with health-care services and invests in nearly 300 research projects around the world. With more than 100 District Offices and 950 employees, MDA funds the mission through special events, corporate engagement, direct to consumer programs and major gifts, foundation support and grants.

Role Summary:

National Director Muscle Walk East will need to be located east of the Mississippi River and very close to a major airport. He/she will report to the National Vice President Community Engagement and will be responsible for the seamless strategic implementation, program design, innovation, resource sharing, communication and execution between Community Engagement and MDA Divisional and District teams in order to increase revenue. The National Director Muscle Walk will work as part of the centralized national income team, but will be de-centralized in location living and working in either with the two East or two West MDA Divisions/Districts.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. National Director of Muscle Walk will be a member of the Chief Development Officers Team. This team directs the integrated income development strategy for short and long-term priorities and collaborates to ensure the organization is meeting its performance metrics.

2. Identify benchmarks and proactively work with assigned East/West Division/District Leadership to design strategies to ensure revenue goal achievement.

3. Collaborate and attend Divisional/District trainings, strategy meetings, kick-offs, events, major sponsor meetings as necessary.

4. National Director of Muscle Walk will be responsible for coordinating with all the internal and external partners engaged with elements of Muscle Walk strategic design. Program elements to be assigned by VP Community Engagement and are for the purpose to grow Muscle Walk revenue and metrics and drive the MDA image

5. As part of the Nationwide Income Team, he/she will be responsible to identify opportunities to cross-sell opportunities for nationwide alliances; including nationwide partners for special events and mobiles, cause-related and direct to consumer programs, payroll deduction, and sponsorship for Telethon and medical/scientific conferences.

6. As part of the Nationwide Income Team he/she will be responsible to identify Major Gift/Institutional/Legacy opportunities.

7. Prepare tools and training for District and Division staff to enhance their capacity to effectively sell and execute on a local level.

8. Ensure program design meets the MDA standards of cost-effective fundraising, while maintaining an acceptable level of quality and return on investment.

9. Meet established performance measures, monitor results and evaluate effectiveness.

10. Develop, initiate and maintain productive, collaborative working relationships with key external partners, including but not limited to, sponsors, vendors,professional groups,and peers at other major non-profits and for profit organizations in order to drive MDA revenue.

11. Evolve and oversee strong, wholistic relationships with strategic alliance partners aligned with Muscle Walk as part of the relationship team.

12. Set and adhere to clear standards, guidelines, tools and practices. Ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, performance requirements, data standards and relationship documentation.

13. Maintain up-to-date records and produce timely reports as needed. (e.g. pipeline reports, partnership history, performance, ROI, enterprise status reports)

Qualifications:

1. Must have 5+ years non-profit fundraising and leadership experience with experiences in Chapter based non-profits and large scale special event management and volunteer recruitment/management.

2. Proven ability to confirm mutual understandings, offer creative and strategic solutions and execution of deliverables.

3. Previous experience in voluntary health organizations strongly preferred.

4. Successful track record in strategic planning, program implementation, consensus building and relationship building.

5. Ability to travel and navigate geographically-diverse philanthropic markets.

6. Excellent leadership skills to guide and train a "sales team" and understanding relationship building within corporations.

7. Ability to communicate in a consistent, proactive and inclusive manner.

8. Must be able to work in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced organization.

9. Outstanding communication and marketing skills.

10. Experience in supporting Division/District offices in their development efforts.

11. High professional standards with the ability to translate broad goals into achievable steps.

12. Strong computer skills and ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.

13. Strategic and data-driven thinker with excellent analytical skills and ability to identify and respond to issues/opportunities in a timely manner.

14. Comfortable interacting with families from diverse disability, cultural and economic backgrounds within a semi-medical environment.

15. Experience with Customer Relationship Management software (CRM) is a plus.

16. Approximately 40% travel, some nights and weekends.

Education:

An undergraduate degree required; an advance degree in a related field is preferred.
