Job Description

Position:Controller Business Unit: Crane Merchandising Systems

Segment: Vending Location(s): Williston, SC

Reports To: VP, Finance Department: Finance

Basic Function:

The position of Controller at Crane Merchandising Systems is expected to manage, plan, organize and direct the accounting organization and its processes impacting financial reporting and control for its global operations. The Controller is expected to provide leadership in the development and execution of accounting controls and processes to ensure the financials are in accordance with Crane Co. Policy and GAAP. This position is also expected to develop into a strong business partner with manufacturing, purchasing and engineering teams, to ensure accounting data and financial statements are accurately prepared in a timely manner, to lead cost teams at all manufacturing locations, and to ensure accurate cost estimates for new product development and roll-out.This role will provide leadership in the areas of cost analysis, cost accounting, and cost optimization for the cost accounting group.In addition, the position will oversee the application of cost accounting theory and work with the corporate offices and internal and external auditors to ensure that the cost accounting and reporting adheres to GAAP standards.Strong management and leadership skills are critical to achieving success as you will lead a diverse set of growing businesses

Responsibilities and Duties:

Improve financial controls and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including local. He/she must formalize the development and training of company personnel to ensure Sarbanes Oxley, Crane Co. Policies and Internal Audit standards, government and local tax and legal reporting requirements are met.

Ensure all financial controls, policies, and processes are well documented, well communicated and well trained. Support tools must be in place to ensure high transactional reporting accuracy. The Controller is also the liaison with Crane Co. internal and external auditors.

Drive and coordinate the monthly close process in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. Responsibilities also include accounts payable, cash application, fixed asset accounting for all North American business units, tax reporting and tax audits, certain treasury functions, payroll management for all US operations, journal entry review, intercompany accounting, balance sheet account analysis and reconciliations. All Crane Co. reporting deadlines must be met.

Deliver internal financial reporting requirements on time. Work with FP&A to secure required comparables.

Manage, direct, and develop finance staff. Must set clear expectations and measurements. Must be committed to the professional development of intellectual capital.

Build strong working relationship across this leadership group to enable interactive, proactive actions in all areas impacting the financial reporting and compliance. Must have ability to form strong partner relationships across all functions impacting financial accounting.

Ensure the accuracy and integrity of our STD Cost system and related subledgers (i.e. perpetual inventory records).

Support / drive process improvement initiatives: process definition, accounting and reporting metrics, new product releases, inventory controls, BOMs and routings, budgeting and forecasting, cycle count program and metrics.

Establish and maintain financial calculations and representations in expense and capital expenditure requests related to operations or new products. Establish, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and instructions to safeguard the Business Unit assets, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and applicable laws and regulations.

Responsible for global cycle counts and inventory reconciliations

Participate in the maintenance of the internal financial control environment ensuring accurate financial statements and safeguarding company assets

Ensure locations are accountable for consistent practices and procedures and comply with corporate policies

Recommend and lead changes in cost accounting methods and procedures

Analyze and interpret gross margins, cost variances, inventory movements, and other accounting reports as they relate to cost


Qualifications and Required Skills:

Experienced Leadership, at least 5-7 years of increasingly responsible positions, with proven track record of success in a multi-location manufacturing company. Public accounting experiences a plus. Industrial manufacturing and cost accounting experience is a plus.

Bachelors Degree and CPA required. MBA preferred.

Demonstrated experience in process improvement, team building and financial system implementations.

Demonstrated ability to promote and deliver positive change.

Must have solid knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and internal controls.

Strong experience in multi-location consolidations.

Technology savvy. Strong computer literacy in Microsoft office applications. Working knowledge of Hyperion a plus. Experience with ERP implementations a plus.
