Custody Officer at Columbia

Summary:

Maintains custody, care and control of residents. Oversees and monitors activities of residents while enforcing and adhering to the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the company and contracting agency.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a variety of duties that may include the following assignments:
Operates security and surveillance equipment essential to the overall security of the facility.

Initiates disciplinary reports on residents.

Prepares reports and maintains daily logs as required.

Ensures prompt and appropriate assistance to residents in the event of injury or illness.

Takes necessary corrective actions to prevent and/or halt adverse resident behavior including physical restraint of violent residents.

Promotes facility cleanliness and reports need for maintenance and/or repairs.

Completes training courses as required by facility training standards

Performs other as assigned.

 RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent certification required. One (1)year experience in correctional, security or police work.

Some training in cultural diversity/sensitivity preferred.

Be at least nineteen (19) years of age.

Be a citizen of the United States

Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, nor have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or not contender to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of a sentence or withholding of adjudication.

Have been fingerprinted by the employing agency.

Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician.

Be of good moral character.

Work experience in a correctional/residential setting preferred.

Valid drivers license.

Must be mature and flexible
