Gerdau is currently seeking a Night Shift Millwright / Industrial Multi-craft Mechanic for its facilities in Lancaster, SC.

***This person will work 6:30 PM – 6 AM.***

 

Job Summary:

Perform various maintenance and repair operations necessary to keep plant equipment, machinery and tools in good operating condition. Work in varied capacities required in general maintenance, overhaul, and repair of hot metal forging machinery and related equipment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work involves a variety of duties pertaining to routine mechanical maintenance functions using variety of hand tools and precision instruments; requiring care to properly dismantle, repair, lubricate, reassemble, or otherwise work on general maintenance in all capacities of pneumatics, mechanical, assembling and installation as directed by Operations Supervisor, Maintenance Coordinator or required by operations, personnel, and production needs.
  • Work closely with Operations Supervisor and Spike Machine Operator to diagnose causes of malfunctions by sight, sound, action of machine, or product quality.
  • Start, observe, operate, or otherwise activate equipment to detect or verify correction of malfunction.
  • Inspect, adjust, clean or lubricate equipment as preventative maintenance.
  • Tear down, replace, repair install and assemble equipment, parts, components and accessories, as directed.
  • Occasionally perform work in other craft classifications such as minor electrical and simple machine jobs, with additional knowledge of pipefitting, welding and hydraulics helpful.
  • In accordance with workload priorities and as directed, adjust, repair or replace mechanisms such as feed rolls, line speeds, header and perishable tools, such as side kicks, stops and bottom kicks.
  • Return all used parts to machine shop.
  • Maintain adequate supply levels of machine spare parts.
  • Detect and report defective material, improper operation, and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations and practices.
  • Perform other duties and work assignments as required or directed.

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5 years of experience in industrial mechanical troubleshooting and repair
  • Must be able to work a night shift:  6:30 PM – 6 AM
  • Self motivated, strong problem solving skills, solid communication skills 
  • Any basic machine shop experience – ability to operate drill presses and milling machines – is a plus.
